Textul scrisorii. Personalizați-o și folosiți-o. Baftă! Adresa de email: legal@distrokid.com
Subject: URGENT REQUEST – Fraudulent Takedown, Restoration of Original Catalog and Preservation of Release Identifiers
Dear DistroKid Legal Team,
I am writing regarding the wrongful removal of my music catalog following an apparently fraudulent takedown request that falsely identified the claimant as contact@diicot.ro.
I received an email from DistroKid stating that stores and streaming services had received takedown requests allegedly submitted by the above claimant, resulting in the removal of my releases from distribution.
After receiving your notification, I contacted the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) to verify whether the institution had submitted those takedown requests.
DIICOT informed me that it did not submit any such complaint or takedown request.
This strongly suggests that the complaint relied upon to remove my catalog did not originate from the institution identified in your notice and that the identity of a Romanian law enforcement authority may have been fraudulently misused.
Furthermore, I have become aware that other DistroKid users have reportedly experienced similar takedown notices involving the same DIICOT email address. I have also been informed that multiple complaints concerning the unauthorized use of the institution’s identity have been reported and that the matter is currently under investigation by the competent Romanian authorities.
Despite the apparent fraudulent nature of the complaint, my catalog has been removed from digital stores and streaming platforms while my paid DistroKid subscription remains active.
Although the temporary loss of royalties may be limited, the true damage caused by this incident is far more significant than the short-term loss of revenue.
My primary concern is the potential permanent loss of the identity and continuity of my catalog.
The removal of my original releases places at risk:
Original UPC codes;
Original ISRC codes and associations;
Original release dates;
Streaming history;
Playlist placements;
Algorithmic positioning;
Platform metadata;
User engagement history;
Long-term discoverability of my music.
These identifiers and historical records cannot simply be recreated by uploading the catalog again.
Re-uploading releases under new identifiers would permanently break the continuity of the catalog and erase years of accumulated platform recognition.
For this reason, the restoration of my original releases, together with their original UPCs, ISRCs, release dates, metadata, streaming history and platform associations, is my highest priority.
Accordingly, I respectfully request that DistroKid:
Immediately investigate the authenticity of the reported complaint.
Work directly with all affected digital stores and streaming services to restore my original releases rather than requiring new uploads.
Take every reasonable measure to preserve my original UPCs, ISRCs, release dates, metadata, streaming history, playlist placements and all existing platform associations.
Confirm in writing that DistroKid will make every reasonable effort to restore the continuity and integrity of my catalog exactly as it existed before this fraudulent complaint.
Identify which store(s) or streaming service(s) originally received the alleged takedown request and subsequently notified DistroKid.
Explain what verification procedures, if any, were performed before acting upon a complaint purporting to originate from a Romanian governmental authority.
Confirm whether the removal resulted from an automated process or from a manual review.
Preserve all electronic records relating to this matter, including—but not limited to—the original complaint, complete email headers, timestamps, metadata, internal support tickets, communications with digital stores and streaming services, and all related logs.
I also respectfully request that my account be flagged internally as the victim of an apparent fraudulent takedown campaign, so that any future complaints allegedly originating from the same source—or otherwise purporting to come from Romanian governmental authorities—are not acted upon without appropriate manual verification and additional authentication.
Given the information currently available, I believe this is a reasonable safeguard that would help prevent further unjustified disruptions to my catalog while protecting both DistroKid and its artists from repeated abuse of the takedown process.
My objective is not litigation.
My objective is to restore my catalog exactly as it existed before this fraudulent complaint and to prevent irreversible damage to years of work invested in building my music catalog.
However, because this incident has already caused commercial harm and continues to jeopardize the integrity of my catalog, I reserve all legal rights available to me should this matter not be resolved promptly.
I would appreciate a substantive written response within seven (7) calendar days.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this serious matter.
Sincerely,
